Crampton, Hight, Butner, and Hines win Gatornationals
The 50th annual Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals was historic As the winners of the historic 50th annual Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals, Richie Crampton, Robert Hight, Bo Butner, and Andrew Hines are now the proud owners of a special edition gold Wally trophy. Crampton won in Gainesville for the second-straight year when he drove the Kalitta Motorsports DHL Top Fuel dragster to a final round win against Clay Millican. Following wins against Antron Brown, Leah Pritchett, and the very competitive entry of T.J. Zizzo, Crampton won the final on a holeshot with his 3.769 barely edging Millican's 3.756. Crampton was able to claim his ninth-career win by a final margin of just 0.0032-second.
Magic Dry Organic Absorbent NHRA Arizona Nationals Billy Torrence, Matt Hagan, and Jeg Coughlin Jr. had the hot hands on a cool weekend in the desert outside of Phoenix and collected victories at the Magic Dry Organic Absorbent NHRA Arizona Nationals. Torrence, the low qualifier, collected his second career NHRA Top Fuel trophy when final-round opponent Leah Pritchett smoked the tires in the final. Prior to the final, Torrence had defeated Terry Totten, Mike Salinas, and Jordan Vandergriff to get to Pritchett.
At Pomona, California Robert Hight claimed his fourth win at Auto Club Raceway to kick off the 2019 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series the right way. He defeated Jack Beckman with a 3.881-second, 329.75 mph holeshot run to leave the Lucas Oil NHRA Winternationals with the points lead. Doug Kalitta (Top Fuel) and Bo Butner (Pro Stock) also leave Pomona with victories and the lead in their categories.
